About this watch

A lovely 1972 Rolex Datejust in solid 18k yellow gold. Never buffed or polished, this lovely piece has a nice, sharp case which has maintained it's original lines and finish. The Rolex Datejust is undeniably one of the greatest designed watches ever, few were made in yellow gold and those that are still around now are rarely in this condition. With matching gold sunburst dial and all it's original fluffy tritium lume still in tact, this piece looks just as good now as it did nearly 50 years ago leaving Geneva.

The case measures 36mm excluding the crown and has 20mm lugs, meaning the piece sits very well on the modern wrist. Naturally being a vintage piece and in solid 18k, there will be some signs of wear, however I think you'll be hard pressed to find another in this condition, with only very minor scratching (largely just the case back as is to be expected) the watch is immaculate for a nearly 50 year old piece.

The watch comes with it's original Rolex gold buckle and then to top things off, we've put the watch on a brand new, unworn original Rolex alligator leather chocolate brown strap, meaning you will be the first person to wear it like this. The pairing really does look fantastic and although it looks great in photos, they don't do the piece it's full justice.

Complete with original Rolex box and original manual, one rarely see sets like this come up for sale.

The piece is keeping great time with a great power reserve and is running perfectly. We do this because we love vintage watches and so if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to send us a message and one of the team will endevor to get back to you as quick as possible.

About the
 MODEL

Whilst 18k Datejusts such as this one are considered rare and most typically examples of the model are seen in Stainless Steel, 18k gold iterations of the model actually play a key part in the history of the datejust. In fact the first Rolex Datejust reference, the 4467 was only available in 18k yellow gold when it was released in 1945 to celebrate the Rolex companies 40th anniversary, it was also introduced with the jubilee bracelet, a design now synonymous with the brand.

Gold examples of the Datejust have also been sported in film by the likes of Michael Caine in Get Carter (although this is sometimes disputed as a Day-Date) and most famously in American Psycho worn by Christian Bale with a steel datejust worn by Paul Newman in the colour of money.
