This great 1958 vintage Baumer Mercier chronograph has had just one owner from new, who diligently kept the original guarantee papers, which is completely unheard of, a truly rare find. This reference 3909 is the only example we are aware of to have been offered complete with it's original papers. This great example was purchased by the original owner in Bordeaux, France.
The 18k gold case was made by Guillod Gunther SA (Poinçon de Maître 117) for Baume Mercier, expert casemakers from La Chaux de Fonds. The three-part case is constructed in solid 18k pink gold, with wonderful, sharp, sculptered lugs and the case is in original, unpolished condition with a swiss helvetia hallmark to the side case and the caseback stamped with two crisp french owl assay hallmarks. The case is in lovely condition overall, naturaly being over 60 years old there is some signs of wear, the only notable points being a tiny ding to the side case, really not noticeable when worn and a couple of little marks to the caseback which is to be expected. It is otherwise very sharp and has retained all its original lines very nicely. The case measures 37mm excluding the crown.
The superb Valjoux movement is keeping good time and is functioning well. We have had the balance restored and it is in excellent condition. The dial is a nice champagne colour with pink gold markers black seconds track and blue chronograph scale. It has a nice, light patina which gives the piece real character and is in great original condition.
At 37mm this piece sits great on the wrist, even by modern standards. It's a seriously good looking vintage piece of great heritage and exceptional value. If you have any questions or need further details, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
